چکیده

We report a series of high-resolution N-body simulations designed to examine the internal physical properties of dark matter halos. A total of fifteen halos, each represented by ∼ 1 million particles within the virial radius, have been simulated covering the mass range of 2 × 10 ∼ 5 × 10hM⊙. As the first application of these simulations, we have examined the density profiles of the halos. We found a clear systematic correlation between the halo mass and the slope of the density profile at one percent of the virial radius, in addition to the variations of the slope among halos of the similar mass. More specifically, the slope is ∼ −1.5, −1.3, and −1.1 for galaxy, group, and cluster mass halos, respectively. Thus we conclude that the dark matter density profiles, especially in the inner region, are not universal.

Cold Dark Matter I: the Formation of Dark Halos

We use numerical simulations of critically-closed cold dark matter (CDM) models to study the effects of numerical resolution on observable quantities. We study simulations with up to 256 particles using the particle-mesh (PM) method and with up to 144 particles using the adaptive particle-particle–particle-mesh (PM) method. Comparisons of galaxy halo distributions are made among the various sim...

The Influence of Baryons on the Mass Distribution of Dark Matter Halos

Using a set of high-resolution N-body/SPH cosmological simulations with identical initial conditions but run with different numerical setups, we investigate the influence of baryonic matter on the mass distribution of dark halos when radiative cooling is not included. We compare the concentration parameters of about 400 massive halos with virial mass from 1013 to 7.1×1014 h−1 M⊙. We find that t...

A Test of the Collisional Dark Matter Hypothesis from Cluster Lensing

Spergel & Steinhardt proposed the possibility that the dark matter particles are self-interacting, as a solution to two discrepancies between the predictions of cold dark matter models and the observations: first, the observed dark matter distribution in some dwarf galaxies has large, constant-density cores, as opposed to the predicted central cusps; and second, small satellites of normal galax...

Density Profiles of Dark Matter Halo are not Universal

Are halos of collisionless cold dark matter collisionless?

We study whether gravitational scattering of halo dark matter particles by subhalos can connect two seemingly independent problems: the abundance of subhalos in dark matter halos and the cuspiness of the halos' inner density profiles. Our numerical experiments indicate that subhalos can cause the collisionless dark matter particles in the centers of main halos to diffuse. Combined with tidal ma...
